Internal knowledge and practices

Thread for starter question 2:

2 What processes do we need to put in place to improve the knowledge base?
How can we share or recycle information more efficiently, cutting down on the time we need to take to find information?

I think our processes within the company are quite good at the moment but better internal communications processes would improve the knowledge base. We all keep one eye on the competition, for example, why don't we have a way of circulating this or storing it centrally - it is going to be useful to more than one team.

I agree, circulating anything people hear about what others are doing would help us in product design. I think the system we have for sharing all kinds of information could be improved as well - each of the UK sites have a separate IT system at the moment, can we not connect them centrally or have a central area that is of use to the whole company? Other information that is only of specific interest should still be stored locally. The IT filing system is also a mess, it needs a real overhaul and archiving.

Its also a global issue in my view, I'd be keen to see information more often from our US division about what's happening in their market. They're often the ones leading the trends in sportswear, especially footwear.

I know its not easy to make the time, but I've been in touch with the US office and am now in regular contact with my counterpart over there - he sends me things that he hears about over in the US and I do the same for him - it works really well, he gave me a new business lead last week which I'm just following up at the moment.
